Bio
Maria Limmen joined the clinical staff at NC State Campus Health in 2020 to head the Occupational Medicine Department.
She graduated from the University of Leiden in the Netherlands with a BA in history in 1988, and also earned an ABA in business while there. After moving to the United States at the age of 22, she completed her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing at Misericordia University in 1996. She went on to earn her Master of Science Degree in Nursing in the Family Nurse Practitioner program at Duke University in 2007.
She is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), and by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). She is a Certified Occupational Hearing Conservationist, and also holds a certification in Wilderness Medicine. She has worked in Occupational Medicine and Family Medicine as a Nurse Practitioner since 2007. Maria also serves NC State University as a Staff Senator, and is a member of the NC State University Biosafety Committee.
Away from work Maria enjoys the great outdoors, travel, historical sites, and photography. She volunteers as the Medical Provider for Becoming an Outdoors Woman every summer.
